UK ports ensure documentation compliance with Ensis software

Green ports

Project facts

  • Client
Harbour Authority with series of ports
  • Location
    United Kingdom
  • Challenge
To support existing operations of the ports in multiple locations client has to manage permits and licenses. However, a large number of documentation make this task extremely difficult to manage and maintain.
  • Solution
Ensis consent and permitting management system
  • Impact
Using consent management system, port authorities can track changes from centralised location and not get lost in a number of changes and updates.

The challenge

The port organisation has the need to manage and maintain hundreds of environmental permits and licenses for a number of ports in different locations. Marine permits and license commitment matrices are often delivered as large spreadsheets with multiple tabs and versions. These are changed by multiple people, cropped, and shared by email in various stages of development, making it difficult and time-consuming to keep track of what is being committed to by the delivery team in response to the permit documentation. Mapping how commitments have been met (or not) becomes fragmented, creating serious statutory, regulatory, financial and reputational risks.

The solution

Twinn by Royal HaskoningDHV aims to solve these problems by applying Ensis consent management system. Using cutting-edge technology Royal HaskoningDHV offers modern ways of working and deep industry knowledge routed in the challenges associated with commitment and regulatory management of large infrastructure projects. Ensis is a consent and commitment monitoring platform based on 15 years of experience delivering consent and environmental compliance services for the renewable energy and maritime sectors.

The impact

Ensis, as an Azure web app, generates the commitment register and assigns it to the relevant work packages or licenses. Tasks and associated evidence can be linked directly to a particular commitment creating a direct line from source to completion. All appropriate stakeholders, internal and external, can be granted full or restricted access to review and add to commitments, automatically creating workflows, so that everybody understands what needs to be done and when.
